What We Know
Jaeger-LeCoultre has been building out its Reverso Tribute Enamel series around the work of Katsushika Hokusai, the 19th-century Japanese artist best known for The Great Wave off Kanagawa, one of the most recognisable works in art history.

For Watches and Wonders 2026, the brand completes its interpretation of A Tour of the Waterfalls of the Provinces with four new references, each limited to 10 pieces. The four scenes depicted: Rōben Waterfall at Ōyama, Kiyotaki Kannon Waterfall, Yōrō Waterfall, and The Falls at Aoigaoka, represent the final works from Hokusai’s eight-print waterfall series.
Rōben Waterfall at Ōyama in Sagami Province
Each watch is housed in the familiar Reverso Tribute case in 18-carat white gold, measuring 45.6 × 27.4 mm and 9.73 mm thick. On the front, you have a relatively restrained dial, while the reverse carries the piece's actual weight. The front dial is built on a hand-guilloché base, executed on a rose-engine lathe, with each reference featuring a distinct pattern: barleycorn, wavy, bamboo, and herringbone. These are then coated with multiple layers, roughly four to five, of translucent grand feu enamel, each fired and dried individually to build depth and colour. Taken together, the work across the dial and caseback comes in at close to 100 hours per watch.
The Falls at Aoigaoka in the Eastern Capital
Each caseback carries a miniature enamel reproduction of the corresponding Hokusai work, built up across at least 14 enamel layers and fired at around 800°C, amounting to roughly 80 hours of work per piece. The scale is worth noting here as well. The entire composition sits on a surface of roughly 2 cm², with Japanese inscriptions reproduced at a microscopic level.
Yōrō Waterfall in Mino Province
Powering all four models is the manually wound Calibre 822, a movement that’s been in use since 1991. It measures 2.94mm thick, runs at 3 Hz, and delivers a 42-hour power reserve. Each reference is delivered either on a black alligator strap with a white gold folding clasp or a white gold Milanese bracelet - a first for the collection. In fact, this is only the second modern Reverso to come on a Milanese, after the much-hyped Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds in yellow gold on Milanese from last year's Watches and Wonders.
What We Think
I’ve seen a few of these Hokusai Reverso pieces come through over the past few years, but this final quartet are the ones that’ll stay with me. Up close, the intricacy and fine detail of the miniature reproductions are just mind-boggling... As are the guilloché dials, which are almost as impressive in their own right. They feel properly special. The Milanese bracelet plays into that as well: the heft of the watch underscoring the preciousness of the métiers d'art in these Reversos.
