What We Know
This week, Girard-Perregaux has announced an expansion of its Laureato Fifty collection with the arrival of four new references - two in 36mm and two in 39mm case sizes. This new line-up builds on the 200-piece 50th anniversary limited edition that was released in 2025, which arrived in a 39mm size and was executed in steel and yellow gold with a grey dial.
The four references include a 39mm reference with a particularly attractive blue in-house enamel dial (without a date window), two references with a striking rose gold dial in 39mm and 36mm, and a final 36mm reference with a silver-tone dial and a bezel set with 64 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling around 0.55 carats. All four new releases feature the brand’s well-recognised Clous de Paris motif dial pattern, octagonal bezels, stainless steel cases (measuring 9.8mm thick) and integrated bracelets, and are powered by the relatively new calibre GP4800.
The calibre GP4800 was released towards the end of last year and represents the watchmaker’s latest generation of time-and-date movement, boasting a variable inertia balance wheel, a silicon escape wheel, a gold automatic rotor mounted on ceramic ball bearings for improved winding efficiency, and 60 hours of power reserve. The coolest detail about the movement in my mind is the balance bridge crafted from rose gold, which takes architectural inspiration from Girard-Perregaux’s Three Bridges collection.
Another interesting detail about these watches can be found in the triple-folding clasp of the bracelet, which includes a micro-adjust system that allows owners to expand the bracelet by 4mm to improve comfort. Anyone who’s owned an integrated sports watch has probably experienced some degree of not-quite-right sizing as the seasons pass, making this an excellent addition to Girard-Perregaux’s permanent catalogue.
What We Think
The Laureato Fifty was almost always going to be expanded into a new collection, and this factory-fresh quartet is a natural place to start. While the two-tone 50th-anniversary limited edition felt like an appropriate homage to half a century of production for the collection, these four new references are unapologetically modern, not only in their sizes but also in their dial colours.
The rose gold dial looks very close to the long-time collector favourite shade of salmon, while the slightly more technically complex enamel dial arrives in a vibrant shade of blue that’s equal parts fun and summery. Plus, with details like the micro-adjust bracelet claps and the calibre GP4800 powering the line-up, there’s no mistaking what era the Laureato is in today.
